tierra distante

            tierra distante

¿quién decide qué merece ser recordado?

            Chile desaparece y permanece.

who decides what is worth remembering?

            Chile disappears and remains.

I have the feeling that the landscape carries things we no longer know how to remember.

For many years, I have found myself taking photographs, intermittently, of certain places within the country-landscape where I live, of acquaintances and strangers, and of certain cultural and symbolic contexts of a social and political memory that slowly fades with time.

I focus my gaze on my constant relationship with rural, peri-urban, and coastal Chile, places that take on an anachronistic character; a narrative that slowly unfolds through the relentless mutation and transformation of the landscape, in a photographic wandering that remains open.

The perpetual is only an invention.

In my eyes, I carry the smell of ashes.
